UV Curing of Inks for Graphics and Digital Printers
EXFO Life Sciences and Industrial Division have developed unique technology that shows great promise in the Digital Printing Industry. Commercial Printing is typically divided into two broad subsets: Graphics and Industrial Printing. Each of these two segments can then be further divided by the application and size of the printer required. EXFO has identified certain specific segments within the digital printing market, such as label and product marking and entry-level wide format printing mentioned above where our advanced technology will offer strong value to printer manufacturers. As a result, we expect to capture a large share of this segment.
The current trend in digital printing is to try and use LED technology for the curing of inks due to their longer life and lower heat as compared to traditional arc lamps. The current limitation of the LED technology is that it is difficult to generate enough power with the LED systems to fully cure the ink in the speeds demanded by the printers, and those LEDs that are powerful enough require complex cooling systems.
EXFO is developing proprietary technology to provide significantly greater output within a form factor acceptable to the industry. This next generation of LED curing system from EXFO will be more advanced than what is currently available with competitive systems. This has been identified as the major limitation in using LED technology; therefore it will be a significant advantage to the EXFO system.
